Along the bridges of Eilat

We begin our tour under the Lifting Bridge near the Eilat marina, the only one of its kind in Israel. From the bridge we will walk along the channel that connects the sea and the northern marina, passing along the docking boats, crossing the first bridge on "little Venice". From here we continue our tour with our 4x4 jeep, crossing the second bridge of "little Venice", driving along the eastern lagoon on the way to the Marine Agriculture Research Institute, where we will have a short presentation of marine agriculture and the raising of the tasty Denise Fish. Back to the jeep, and off the road we drive along the "Salad Road" and past the biggest vineyard in Israel, along the green hoses, green salad fields, and date plantations, where we will be acquainted with the date-palm culture and the modern, unique irrigation systems of the desert. Our next stop will be at the salt pools where we can observe the Flamingos nesting at the pools. Near those pools we will also visit an ancient farm from the early Islamic period, with a very unique irrigation system: "The Chain Wells" (Fugaras). Here we will hear about the ancient water systems and irrigation methods in the desert region in old times.
From the farm we head to the southern Eilat mountain Nature Reserve. We will then ascend a hill that will revile to us the magnificent scenery of the Arava valley and Edom Mountains. From that hill the road will take us to the ancient Islamic road Darb El Haj. Here we have an opportunity to visit Eilat's oldest bridge, dating back to the Ottoman period. Under the bridge some Roman paving can still be seen. From the bridge we will start to decent towards Wadi Shahamon, driving in a dry river bed under the three modern concrete bridges that connect the old and new Eilat neighborhoods. We end the tour under the bridge that connects the two parts of the Eilat Naval Base. From here you will be taken back to your hotel.
